COLORADO (KREX) — On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) anticipates a busy weekend of travel along the Interstate 70 Mountain Corridor in both directions for people leaf-peeping the changing foliage.
Travelers should expect heavy traffic heading westbound late morning through the early afternoon and eastbound from the late morning into the evening. CDOT recommends that people leave either early, before 8 a.m., or later in the day to avoid the worst congestion.
Outside of the interstate, congestion can be expected along US Highway 285, Kenosha Pass, Guanella Pass and other scenic roadways.
The anticipation of the busy weekend is based on 2024 traffic data for the same weekend, when traffic volumes were found to be the highest of the fall season
