An armed group of assailants gagged and zip-tied occupants of a south-west Sydney home early on Friday, stealing up to $100,000 in cash and jewellery before fleeing, despite residents attempting to detain the intruders.

The unknown group of men kicked their way into the house on Sunny Place, St Johns Park shortly after midnight on Friday. One of the assailants was dressed in a fake police costume, Nine News reported.

There were four people home during the invasion – two men aged 21 and 29, and two women aged 27 and 56 – who were gagged with duct tape after they were pulled from bed, as the assailants stole cash and an expensive watch collection before fleeing in two white vans.
