SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - School Resource Officers are seen in districts nationwide. Not only do they provide on-site security, but are a first response for incidents within a school building, but that isn’t all school resource officers do.

According to the Department of Justice , school resource officers fill several different roles within a school.

They help address crime and disorder. They act as an informal counselor, building relationships with students and serve as community liaisons. They often help educate students about safety, drug awareness, conflict resolution and more. They also serve as an emergency manager, helping schools and school districts prepare emergency plans, policies and aid in coordinating efforts with first responders in emergencies.
