PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A domestic violence suspect is in the hospital after being shot by police officers in a central Phoenix neighborhood late Wednesday.
Phoenix Police responded to the domestic violence call just before 10:30 p.m. on 31st Avenue, north of Bethany Home Road.
Police officers arrived and found a man with a machete and holding a toddler hostage.
Officers tried less-lethal methods to get the man to comply with orders, but when that did not work, they shot the man, according to Phoenix Police. Officers then took away the machete and got the toddler, who was not seriously hurt and then was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Phoenix Police said, but should survive. He will be booked when he’s released.
