WAITSFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - While most folks don’t necessarily welcome rainy days, Thursday’s soaking rain in the midst of the region’s current extreme drought brought a little bit of relief.

Rain puddles and cloudy skies didn’t stop people from hitting the shops on Thursday in the Mad River Valley.

After a long, dry summer, many folks, including avid gardener Lou Kaminski, welcomed the rain. “It’s a rain day, which we haven’t had all summer. This is the first time this week we’ve gotten to have a day or two off because of the weather,” she said. Kaminski says the lack of water has been tough on her garden, but that her perennials made it through. “Hopefully, the rain kind of perks up those last blooms we have for the season.”
