AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The signpost in front of the Seymour Library in Auburn may be small, but the message it conveys to the community is much larger. Serving as a symbol of inclusivity and celebration, the post, which was once decorated with bright, rainbow colors, is now blackened and vandalized.
The library shared the news in a Facebook post.
"We'll continue to do our end of trying to solve the crime and make an arrest if we have enough evidence to do so," said Auburn Police Department Chief Matthew Androsko.
People online are already labeling the act as hateful. But until a suspect is in custody, police are not labeling the act of vandalism as a hate crime.
