SENECA FALLS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The startling case out of Seneca County of a 26-year-old man being accused of luring and raping a 12-year-old girl he met online shows just how dangerous social media can be for a child.

CEO of the Child Rescue Coalition, Greg Schiller, wasn't surprised by the lengths the suspect was willing to go to.

"At the end of the day, the predator is going to do what they want to try to convince your child," Schiller said.

With new apps, games and websites being created every day, the risks become greater.

"The environment right now is the most dangerous it's ever been," Schiller said.

He said predators target children through these avenues, going as far as pretending to be other children or pretending to have a family connection with the victim.
