SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Leaders at the Sevier County Animal Shelter are considering euthanasia for the second time this year. They posted a plea on Facebook asking for the community's help.
The shelter is overcapacity with no room for any more dogs, and they are already scheduled to take in more than 20 additional dogs on Monday.
Shelter Director Ashley Thomas said euthanizing animals is the last thing they want to do.
"We've got crates in the hallways and our visit rooms, even in our community room. Our adoption rate slowed down to a crawl, so when you get to that point, it's like, okay — but what else do we do?" she said.
The shelter moved into its new facility in March. That move gave them more space to care for the animals they take in each week, but it's still not enough.
