SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Spring Hill family has lost their home and a large amount of money after police said they fell victim to a rental scam.
Charnequa Mclemore had spent eight months bouncing between living with different family and friends with her two young daughters trying to save up enough money to get a home.
In early September, Mclemore found a rental listing online for a house on Countess Lane that had everything she wanted. She went to the home and found a sign in the front yard from property management company AMH that had a QR code to tour the property on your own.
Mclemore said she scanned the code and started messaging with someone she thought was a representative from AMH. The supposed landlord let them into the home and Mclemore fell in love with the place.
