Gov. Bill Lee said Friday the Memphis Safety Task Force will begin its months-long operations on Monday in Tennessee’s second-largest city.

The force comprises multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Tennessee National Guard, and is being deployed due to Memphis’ high violent crime rate.

Lee said Friday that the largely federally funded effort will include 13 agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service (which the governor said will “chair” the operation), the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), among others.

As previously reported, President Donald Trump announced the establishment of the task force last week.
