MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A curve on Laurel Creek Road in Lenore, West Virginia has a deadly history : dozens of car accidents through the years - including four in the last four months, according to Lenore’s Assistant Fire Chief Skipper Farris.

On Aug. 1, Zerique Hardy crashed into a tree and ended up in the creek below. He died from his injuries at 27 years old.

Three years earlier, Melissa Copley died in a similar accident in almost the exact same spot.

Farris told WSAZ it’s hard to remember exactly how many accidents there have been on the spot in the past few years, but says it’s in the dozens.

After WSAZ’s investigation was published on Tuesday, the West Virginia Department of Transportation said it will begin a safety review of the road.
