PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau on Thursday swore in what they say is the largest single group of hires in more than 25 years amid lower staffing numbers.

According to PPB, the agency now contains 812 sworn members, which includes 558 officers; 98 of them are still in training. There remains a vacancy of 65 members, as their "authorized strength" total is 877 members, the agency said.

“This is a memorable day for the Portland Police Bureau,” said Chief Bob Day in a press release. “We are finding exceptional individuals to serve the communities of Portland.”
