ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - After years of conversation and construction, it was time to come together and celebrate.

With balloons overhead, tunes bumping in the background and a drink of choice in hand, city leaders and the community came together to celebrate the completion of the “Rebuild Downtown Rock Island” project.

The nearly $9 million investment in Rock Island’s downtown restored the downtown area to its former glory, officials said, while adding several new improvements, some of which include:

“Welcome to Downtown Rock Island” archway and sign across from Schwiebert Riverfront Park

Four blocks of street reconstruction

Rock Island letters for photo opportunities

Catherine Greer, a community member, said the changes are night and day from the party hub the area used to be.
