Thursday's boys soccer showdown between Thomas Jefferson and Bethel Park featured two of the top five teams in the Post-Gazette's Class 3A rankings.

First place in Section 2 was also on the line as the two teams came into the game, held at Thomas Jefferson, with a 7-0-1 record as they tied 1-1 in their first encounter on Aug. 28.

This time, No. 5 ranked Bethel Park (8-1-2, 8-0-1) recorded a 2-1 upset of the top-ranked Jaguars (10-1-1, 7-1-1).

“I thought it was a hard fought match by both teams,” Bethel Park coach Doug Fink said. "I have a lot of respect for the Jaguars because they always compete for every ball, they are organized, and they are well coached. I felt tonight's match went back and forth with momentum swings. But I was extremely proud of our guys for believing in the system
