PHOENIX — A Weather Impact Alert is in effect for Friday for the increased chance of thunderstorms rolling through the Valley during the daytime hours.

Much of the Valley is under a flood watch Friday morning through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Potential effects of the storms include:

Local ponding of water on roadways

Excessive runoff along rivers, creeks, streams and washes

Excessive rainfall is causing road closures and unsafe recreation

"At this point, the prime time for storms in the Valley on Friday looks to be between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.," Meteorologist Chris Dunn said.

The system will linger over the state with additional showers and a few thunderstorms again on Saturday and Sunday, Dunn said.
