HANCEVILLE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - After Hanceville dissolved its police force earlier this year , it could make a return after city councilors passed their 2026 budget that includes money for public safety .
The FY2026 budget includes $1.5 dollars for public safety, but it will be up to the new mayor and city council to decide what happens with it.
After the police department dissolved , the city had money budgeted that was not spent this year. That money was put in savings. So now, leaders are allocating it for public safety.
Councilor John Stam tells WBRC he would like the city to have its own law enforcement presence.
