A Northern Territory Government department used the sudden death of a contractor who was allegedly bullied in the workplace to promote RUOK Day without his family’s permission.

An internal investigation has been launched into the death of Shaun Joyce, 45, an IT contractor within the Department of Corporate and Digital Development who was working on the NT Government’s troubled Acacia project.

Mr Joyce’s family say the pain of his death has been exacerbated by the department’s response, including using his death to promote RUOK Day without the family’s permission and before the coroner had made an official determination about the cause of his death.

Adam Joyce said he was shocked to learn his brother’s death had been used to promote the day, less than two weeks after he died.
