New Delhi: OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is preparing to make one of its boldest business moves yet: adding advertising to its popular AI chatbot. With more than 700 million users worldwide but only around 20 million paying for subscriptions, the company is betting that ads could open the door to a massive new stream of revenue.
Leading this shift is Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s new head of applications, who joined last month after running Instacart and previously leading Facebook’s main app. She has already begun building an internal advertising team and is actively recruiting senior leaders to steer the monetisation strategy.
