LOWER MANHATTAN (PIX11) -- A social media video showing a man identified as an ICE agent appearing to shove a woman to the ground is sparking outrage.

Several New York democrats are condemning the confrontation recorded at 26 Federal Plaza on Thursday, which houses offices for Homeland Security and Immigration Services.

The news outlet ProPublica reported the woman was slammed to the ground in front of her children while she pleaded with ICE to release her husband. Why he was detained is not yet clear.

After the clash, multiple other ICE agents and media crowded around the woman before a court officer escorted her and her children away.

ProPublica reports that the woman’s name is Monica and that she and her family were seeking asylum from Ecuador.
