BROOKLYN, Ohio -- The trickledown effect of the $7.4 billion opioid crisis settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family finds funds going to Northeast Ohio communities.

Considering Ohio is receiving roughly $198 million to help address the opioid crisis, Brooklyn with its nearly $30,000 award recently created an opioid settlement advisory task force.

“We’re establishing basically a panel or a group that kind of determines what we’re gonna do with those funds,” Brooklyn Mayor Ron Van Kirk said.

As for the task force, the membership will include a City Council representative, as well as a Brooklyn resident and addiction professional.

The group will provide suggestions that could be included in the 2026 operating or capital budgets.
