KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – Community members are invited to step into history this weekend and explore the recently renovated Drake farmhouse.

Oshtemo Charter Township and the Oshtemo Historical Society will host a special ribbon-cutting event and festive fall celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Drake Farmstead Park, 927 North Drake Road.

The event will showcase the ongoing renovations and restoration of the historic farmhouse built in 1882 by early settlers Benjamin and Maria Drake.

The Drakes arrived in what is now Oshtemo Township in 1830, building their original red brick farmhouse 22 years later, according to the Oshtemo Historical Society.

After that original home was destroyed by fire in 1882, the couple rebuilt immediately on site, erecting the larger 14-room farmh
