'Out of an abundance of caution' — Herrin High School on lockdown, all students and staff reported safe

HERRIN, Ill. — Friday morning, Herrin Community Unit School District No. 4 issued an alert, stating that Herrin High School is currently on a lockdown.

According to the school system, possible gunshots were reported east of the school. All students and staff are safe, the school system states, and police are on the scene investigating.
