GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids police will not be releasing the video of an incident that ended with two officers shooting and injuring a man armed with a knife.

Police Chief Eric Winstrom announced the decision Friday, and said the video will not be released at this time "in consideration of the family’s concerns."

“My commitment has been to transparency in officer-involved shootings since day one,” said Winstrom. “In this case, we must also take into account the privacy of the individual, who is expected to continue to recover from his injuries, and his family. We must balance the community’s right to know with the family’s expressed desire, in the media and to MSP investigators, for privacy and healing.
