New Delhi: Shimla-born Sumeet Verma put up a valiant effort by playing a good knock of 45 runs off 32 deliveries for Uganda in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 qualifier game against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Friday, September 26.

Sumeet came to the crease when his side was struggling in the power play at 32/2. The 33-year-old batter built a 22-ball 41-run partnership with another Indian-born player, Raghav Dhawan, to lay a foundation for a big score in the first innings.

Thanks to Sumeet’s 45 runs, Uganda posted 152/9 in 20 overs in the first game of the qualifying fixtures. At the halfway mark, they were cruising towards a big score, but Zimbabwe bowlers fought back in the latter half of the innings and stopped Uganda on an under-par score.
