Dear Care and Feeding,

It’s only been a little over a month since school started, and my second-grade daughter, “Mickey,” is already in serious trouble.

Her teacher called last week to tell me that Mickey spread a rumor that a boy in her class, “Joey,” is a bedwetter who wears diapers. Worse, she smuggled a diaper from home (from her baby brother’s supply) and hid it in Joey’s desk. When he opened it, several classmates saw.

Mickey has been grounded for three months, and we made her apologize to Joey. Unfortunately, the rumor has spread throughout the school, and Joey is understandably very upset.
