West Valley sees substantial rainfall, winds

A severe thunderstorm warning is in efffect for Maricopa County, as a severe thunderstorm was located over the northern Glendale, Peoria and Sun City area moving northeast at 10 mph.

According to meteorolgist Sean Benedict at the National Weather Service in Phoenix, strong severe thunderstorms are expected to continue through the mid-afternoon and begin to trail off in the early evening hours.

"Some of these storms are producing severe hail up to one inch in diamater, 50-60 mile per hour winds and high rainfall rates," Benedict said.

Accoding to the Maricopa County Flood Control District website, rainall totals of over 1 inch in the past hour have been recorded in areas near Westgate and Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale and near Camelback
