The Edmund Fitzgerald shipwreck is coming up on 50 years and local historians are looking for one of the last radios to be in contact with the ill-fated voyage.
A 1974 Coast Guard radio made the final land contact with the ship and was discarded in a dumpster when the Auxiliary Coast Guard building in Grand Marais was emptied out a few years back, the Grand Marais Historical Society said in a Facebook post.
The historical society is seeking the radio in the hopes that someone may have salvaged it from the dumpster at the time, per the post.
"The Historical Society is actively seeking this radio. If there’s even a slight chance that someone rescued it before the dumpster was taken away, we would be immensely grateful if you could let us know. Thank you for your assistance," the post
