PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Monsoon storms are causing travel problems for people in the Phoenix area on Friday morning.

A ground stop was issued for departures at Phoenix Sky Harbor just before 11 a.m. and should last about half an hour.

The West Valley got hit first with monsoon thunderstorms and parts of Phoenix got heavy rain and pea-sized hail, too. Homeowners in north Scottsdale also got pummeled with hail.

The National Weather Service Phoenix has issued a flash flood and severe thunderstorm warning for a majority of the West Valley, including Glendale, Peoria and Surprise that lasts until 1:30 p.m.

A Flash Flood Warning is also in place for Scottsdale, Anthem and New River until 2:30 p.m.
