Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar (15) throws a pass during the first quarter against the Southern Methodist Mustangs in the first round of the College Football Playoff at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Kickoff from Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania, is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC / Peacock). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NCAA football odds around the Oregon vs. Penn State odds and make our expert college football picks and predictions for the best bets.

Oregon rolled past the Oregon State Beavers 41-7 Sept. 20, pushing as a 34-point favorite with the Under (58) hitting. The Ducks racked up 585 total yards, including 305 through the air from QB Dante Moore, while limiting Oregon State to just 147 yards and forcing a turnover. Oregon at Penn State picks and predictions

Prediction

Penn State 28, Oregon 27

Moneyline

PASS.

I like Penn State to win as a -175 favorite, but the Nittany Lions are not worth the risk of backing on the ML.

The White Out home crowd, combined with the upside of Penn State's talent on both sides of the ball, makes this a slight lean. Still, pass on the moneyline and bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET OREGON +3.5 (-110).

Oregon is a dangerous team offensively and solid on defense. On the other side, Penn State has looked questionable offensively while possessing one of the best defenses in the country. The strength of that Penn State defense is its defensive line, but Oregon's passing attack will open up the run game, allowing it to find pay dirt in this matchup.

Expect Penn State to start slow offensively, with its defense keeping the team in the game early, before the Nittany Lions pull out a late victory in a close contest.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 52.5 (-110).

Both Penn State and Oregon can score at will, averaging 44 and 50.8 points per game, respectively, making the Over more attractive. While this game will be the most defensive and low-scoring either team has had this season, these offenses have enough talent that the Over is still the safer play.

Also, this Penn State defense, while still elite, is not as good as in 2024, and I expect Oregon to have some success offensively in both the running and passing game early.

Penn State's offense, including QB Drew Allar, has looked rough at times to start the season, but it showed improvement against Villanova. With 2 dominant running backs to rely on, this offense should look like the high-powered unit it’s capable of once it gets into a rhythm.
