COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — A Coeur d'Alene firefighter, who was shot in an ambush attack in North Idaho, is continuing to recover.

Medical complications have impeded his rehabilitation efforts.

The city's fire department said in a Facebook post that Dave Tysdal recently suffered "a severe blood infection" that caused sepsis.

But Tysdal is reportedly back on schedule with his rehabilitation, according to the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department.

The department shared on Facebook that the firefighter is currently learning to drive with hand controls. He is also working to regain control of his upper body through physical therapy.

Family members expressed their thanks for the community's continued support as he still has a "long road of healing ahead."
