HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A day after jurors handed down a guilty verdict in the murder trial of Benjamin Elliott , a judge issued his sentence.

The defense argued a miscarriage of justice and asked the judge to be lenient with his sentence. They asked for 5 years in prison. The judge said the jury also asked him to be light with the sentence.

The prosecution asked for nothing less than 40 years in prison.

The judge decided to issue a 15-year sentence.

Benjamin Elliott killed his sister more than three years ago when they were both 17.

Now 21, Benjamin Elliott's defense team claimed that he was asleep when he stabbed her in September 2021. Meghan Elliott was sleeping when her brother plunged one of his father's survival knives into her neck.
