The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that September 27 will be a Free Fishing Day, coinciding with National Hunting and Fishing Day. On this day, all anglers - residents and non-residents alike - can fish in New York’s freshwater waters without a fishing license.

DEC Commissioner Amanda Leftonsaid that Free Fishing Days offer a great opportunity for newcomers to try fishing and for experienced anglers to share the outdoors with others.

“It’s a chance to enjoy New York’s abundant waterways and celebrate our rich fishing heritage,” she said.
