BATON ROUGE, La. —
The family of Southern University student Caleb Wilson has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in civil court against Omega Psi Phi fraternity and Southern University.
The lawsuit alleges the fraternity has a "known and pervasive risk of hazing." Advertisement
The lawsuit also claims the chapter entrusted untrained and ill-equipped graduates to oversee recruitment.
Wilson died after being punched repeatedly in the chest while pledging at an off-campus warehouse in February.
The family is suing several defendants, including Caleb McCray, Kyle Thurman, and Isaiah Smith, the three people arrested and charged in connection with his death.
McCray is facing manslaughter and criminal hazing charges, while Smith and Thurman are facing criminal hazing charges.
