ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Missouri farmers are under stress this harvest season, but the governor is allocating state resources to help.
Despite recent rain, 5 million Missourians are under drought. That’s 2% more than last week, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor . Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe issued a drought declaration this week, in effect until Dec.1. That will allow farmers in need to be reimbursed for things like hay and grass seed.
“Unfortunately, one rain storm won’t solve our problem,” Kehoe said. “Almost 90% of our production agriculture acres are in some kind of drought condition.”
Tom Wright has been farming cattle in Miller County since the 1970s. This year, he’s dealt with floods and now drought, putting stress on his herd.
