MASON, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan 4-H, youth program operating in Ingham County, could be at risk of being shut down due to proposed budget cuts, prompting leaders to turn to the community for help.

4-H is a program within MSU Extension currently serving more than 2,000 kids, offering research-based education programs and programming to help strengthen communities.

Officials say they requested over $327,000 to keep the program going but say the Finance Committee approved only $43,650 from their budget request.

William Hendrian, Executive Director for MSU Extension's 8th District, says that with such a small budget, it’s not enough to employ a full-time program manager. He adds that without funding, all county-based programs could be eliminated.
