HINTON, WV (WVNS) -- A local cemetery in Hinton is asking for help restoring one of its best known and most historic monuments.

Hilltop Cemetery was first established in 1875 and now has five different sections that are separated by Elk Knob Road that comprise the whole of the cemetery grounds.

There are an estimated fifteen hundred graves within the cemetery, most of which were interred before 1972, according to the summary in Hilltop Cemetery's National Register of Historic Places documents.

Bobby Cox, President of the Board of Trustees for the cemetery, is working with the Hinton Area Foundation to collect donations for the cost of repairs.
