WACO, Texas — The American Red Cross is hoping to help Waco residents stay safe from house fires this October, and they are looking for volunteers to help.

The American Red Cross Heart of Texas Chapter is looking for volunteers to help install free smoke alarms for families during its Sound the Alarm event, which is meant to provide smoke alarms to homes that need them and educate community members on fire safety.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, volunteer teams will be joined by members of the Red Cross and their community partners as they visit homes in the Waco area to install the smoke alarms and share fire safety information.

The Red Cross said no experience is needed to participate, and training will be provided at the South Waco Community Center, located at 2815 Speigh
