CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - President Trump announced a new round of tariffs set to begin next month, including a 100% tariff on brand-name prescription drugs not manufactured in the U.S.
The new tariffs will not affect generic drugs, which, according to the FDA, make up about 90% of prescriptions filled in the United States.
This move is part of a broader tariff strategy that also includes a 50% tariff on imported kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, a 30% tariff on furniture, and a 25% tariff on imported heavy-duty trucks.
"Because I take prescription drugs, I wouldn't like to see additional tariffs on them. If they can make them closer to home, it would make it a lot better for people like me," said Alesia Barbaro of Ludlow.
