CANTON, S.D. (KELO) - After more than a year of renovations, the Canton Lutheran Church is finally ready to welcome people back into the basement fellowship hall.

Last summer, historic flooding hit southeast South Dakota, and Canton was one of the areas hit hard. Many buildings took on water, including the century-old Canton Lutheran Church.

"In this space, we had about a foot of water. In the boiler room we had about three to four feet, it came just under the boiler level," Pastor Jon Splichal-Laron said. "So, what happened is, the drywall had to be taken out, the radiators were damaged and had to be taken. It was pretty rough."

But now the space is inviting once again thanks to the help and support of many people both in the church's congregation and beyond.
