The Minnesota Lynx are one loss from being eliminated from the WNBA semifinals after falling to the Phoenix Mercury 84-76 in Game 3 Friday night — and they may have lost more than the game.
Trailing 80-76 with under 40 seconds to play, Napheesa Collier was stripped of the ball by Alyssa Thomas before knee-to-knee contact between the two MVP finalists sent Collier crashing to the court in pain.
No foul was called, and immediately after Thomas coasted in for an uncontested layup on the other end of the floor, Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve raced toward one of the officials and was instantly assessed a second technical foul and ejected from the game. Reeve had to be held back from the officials by guard Natisha Hiedeman and assistant coaches.
