NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Sara Jane Moore, the woman who attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975, has died at 95, the Associated Press reported .

Moore died this week at a nursing home in Franklin, Tennessee, according to Demetria Kalodimos, a friend and longtime acquaintance who says she was informed by the executor of Moore’s estate, AP said.

In that infamous 1975 incident, Moore fired shots at Ford as he exited the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. The first round missed, and the second round was deflected when bystander Oliver Sipple grabbed her arm and instead struck a taxi driver, the San Francisco Chronicle reported .
