HAVERHILL, Mass. —

Haverhill Police Chief Robert Pistone Jr. announced the unattended death of an officer on Saturday.

"It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of a beloved Haverhill Police Officer," Chief Pistone wrote in a statement. "She served our community with grace, compassion, kindness, and professionalism, and will be deeply missed."

The officer's name is not being released.

Although the cause of death remains under investigation, police say the death does not appear to be suspicious.

No further details were immediately available.
