Friday was clean-out day at The Country Store in River Vale, so Rick Marshall and his business partner Jim DeSalvatore still had a lot of work to do.

But instead of another day of making coffee and slapping ham on the egg and cheese sandwich amid the endless chit-chat, it was time to pull the plug on the place where locals say “everybody knows your name.”

“It’s just amazing that in 40 years the friends you make and the people that you touch their hearts,” said Marshall, as he paused outside the front door to read a letter from a customer. “And they touched our hearts, too. They became our close friends.”
