American fans at the Ryder Cup booed Scottie Scheffler's name as announcers tried to lead them in a 'cringe' chant on Saturday morning.
Footage shared on social media showed hundreds of people on their feet, clapping in unison from the grandstands as the sun was rising on Day 2 at Bethpage Black, where the Europeans are in full control .
"Slow down, slow down," the announcer is heard saying, before encouraging fans to clap the beat of Queen's iconic 'We Will Rock You' hit.
She then added: "Here come the lyrics… Scottie, Scottie Scheffler !"
At that moment, some fans started to boo and jeer, and the announcer appeared to admit defeat.
But a second voice is heard soon after, trying to get the chant going again.
"We're going to try this one more time… if it doesn't work, we'll do a
