PITTSBURGH — Louisville football had its first test of the season and squeaked by.

Despite penalties and an inconsistent offensive performance, Louisville's second-half defensive shutout and timely plays were key in the 34-27 comeback win over Pitt during the ACC opener Saturday at Acrisure Stadium .

The Cardinals' run game was virtually nonexistent with running backs Isaac Brown and Duke Watson playing through lower leg injuries . At one point, Watson left the game after appearing to have tweaked his right ankle during the second quarter but returned to the field midway through the third frame. Louisville (4-0, 1-0 ACC) had only 13 rushing yards at the half with Watson recording 11 of them on six carries.
