SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Tropical Depression Nine sits just to the north of Cuba with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph... just 4 mph short of tropical storm status. It is moving slowly towards the northwest at 5 mph. Over the next coming days, it is forecast to intensify to a category 1 hurricane in strength as it travels up the eastern seaboard.

Although staying just off shore, a tropical storm watch is in affect for the eastern coast of Florida with rain and windy conditions in the forecast.
