MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after bringing a gun to school, the Memphis Police Department said.
Just before 2:15 Friday afternoon, MPD said, officers were sent to Freedom Prep High School to speak with a school resource officer (SRO) who said he'd been told by multiple students that a 15-year-old boy had brought a handgun to school; the security officer told police he had the boy in cuffs and had secured the gun.
Police said they spoke to the boy, who said he'd never brandished the gun, but did admit he'd brought the gun to school because he was being threatened and felt like he needed to defend himself.
MPD said the SRO told them he'd spoken to students who said they were sitting together when they saw the 15-year-old pull something out of his backpack and hide
