The arrest and detention of Atcharee Buntow in Fairbanks lays bare the lie that Trump’s mass deportations are focusing on deporting violent criminals.

Based upon ICE’s explanation of Atcharee Buntow’s immigration status and criminal activity, the greatest danger of violence presented by Atcharee Buntow are paper cuts. Buntow’s immigration status was compromised by a paperwork error. Buntow has lived in Fairbanks for over 30 years having moved to Fairbanks with her mother when she was 11. Her mother failed to file paperwork for Buntow’s residence card, which Buntow was in the process of correcting. Her crime was filing for an Alaska PFD claiming that she was a U.S. citizen. Buntow is married to a U.S. citizen, has six children (all U.S. citizens) and works in the family’s Thai restaurants.
