Two western suburb councils will be cutting back their water use after one maxed out its annual groundwater allocation and the other went over the limit.

The Town of Mosman Park said it had exceeded its allocation by 15,283kL last year and is now working to reduce its water consumption through a range of measures.

These include turning off irrigation to areas that serve only an aesthetic purpose, a focus on irrigation for high use sporting areas, and upgrading its irrigation systems.

The Shire of Peppermint Grove will also be cutting back its water usage after finding itself right on the limit of its yearly groundwater allocation.
