Locals showed a groundswell of support for a Fairbanksan who immigration officers arrested and detained in August during a Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly meeting on Thursday.

Assemblymembers Scott Crass and Kristan Kelly co-sponsored a resolution that called on Congressional lawmakers to help secure the release of Atcharee Buntow, 42, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested her on Aug. 7.

Buntow, a mother of six, including a 2-year-old son, was running grocery errands for her mother, restaurant owner Vissanee Bunnag, when she was pulled over by an unmarked vehicle and arrested by masked people. She was first transferred from Fairbanks Correctional Center to Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River and then flown to the Northwest Detention Center i
